LM pulse reading for visitors

Hola amigos in La Manzanilla.
Our family has been to visit you twice, for a month each time, back in '06 and '07. And we're planning to come back to your lovely pueblo again this August. We have been looking forward to it with excitement since we booked our flights to Manzanillo 8 months ago.
I just read the US State Dept Travel advisory for Mexico, and though it's bad for the border areas, it's not too bad for Jalisco. It does mention a rise in violent incidents in Jalisco over the past few months. And that was before the recent killing in Colima state of Manzanillo's police chief.
Is your community beginning to worry about an escalation of violence in your area, or not yet? Do you think it's still a good time to come visit LM, or do you think we should consider postponing for a while? Do you think that the drive to and from the airport in Manzanillo to LM is a safe route these days?
Of course, we are coming to vacation in LM to enjoy your extremely relaxed pace, the magnificent and inspiring natural beauty, and the friendly people, among other delights. From reading your recent posts, I can see that though there was an acknowledgement of the assassination, LM still seems focused on the beauty of the beach and other non-violent concerns.
So thanks in advance to those of you living there, for responding directly to my concerns, and letting a soon-to-be visitor know if the town's pulse is still relaxed, or if it's speeding up. Gracias.
