BAMBOO CONSTRUCTION COURSE

The Tierralegre Institute is offering a “Building with Bamboo” course in order to teach an environmentally responsible method of construction using the incredibly renewable resource--bamboo. This course will also mark the innauguration of the permaculture / sustainability center "El Arca" as we will begin the construction of its first structure during the course. The course will cover bamboo cultivation, treatment and construction techniques balancing theory and hands-on experience building an actual bamboo structure. The course instructor is Ricardo Leyva, Director of Ojtat (http://www.ojtat.org), and one of the experts on bamboo construction in Mexico. It will be taught in Spanish and translated immediately into English. It will take place from November 21-25, 2010. It begins at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st and ends at 4:00 p.m. on the 25th. The location of the course will be in La Manzanilla at the new Tierralegre Institute permaculture center, “El Arca”. Half of the course will cover the theory behind bamboo cultivation, treatment and construction. During the other half we will building an actual bamboo structure. Various options including camping, lodging, or just taking the course, exist.
