The area near town that is pretty good is out near the Big rocks off the beach south west end of the bay in La Manzanilla. The hard part is either you have to swim out from were the fisherman launch or walk out along a trail near the bluffs at mid to low tide (and out to half way to the big rocks in the ocean)and brave the rock entry. I found that if you are a good swimmer that you can enter with GOOD TEVA sandles or the like and just float/swim along the rocky waters out 100 feet, and all along the area there is fairly nice assembledge of fish. When you get out to the rocks in the bay it is deep and I often see a nice friendly Manta Ray and much bigger fish. Out past the rocks it changes to deeper water larger fish and schools of fish.

Close in there are often lots of fish but the rocks at the beach break are sharp and entry there is not for those who are timid or afraid of bumps and bruses. Their entry and exit is off the beach and a longer swim.
