Greetings to all of our great friends in La Manzanilla. I have been monitoring the postings and responses regarding the resort at Boca de Iguanas and as one of the unfortunate homeowners there I thought it was time to fill everyone in on what has actually transpired there over the last six months and where we are at the moment. As many of you probably already know the resort had been experiencing financial difficulties for some time. This past spring the developer decided to close the hotel and restaurant, postpone any new construction, and trim back the operation to a skeleton crew. Subsequently he closed his offices in Manzanillo and returned to the US with his family. In July there was an embargo placed on the property by the employee's union due to non-payment of dues and wages. The property was sealed of under guard and all the homeowners were denied access to their homes. Over the next 2 very scary months the homeowners developed a plan to loan the development money to help pay the union debt. Without this effort the union would almost assuredly have been able to take the property in lieu of payment. I cannot begin to tell you how much work and negotiation that it took to come to a solution. At one point we were within 24 hours of having the union break into our homes and begin removing everything. Thankfully we were able to avert disaster at the last moment. As of today the embargo has been lifted and we have access to our homes once again. We a beginning the monumental task of clean up and resorting services after 2 months of neglect. There is a plan in place to keep the basic services going and restore the resort grounds and amenities to the previous status quo. The homeowners are determined to do whatever is necessary to hold onto their homes and investments and we want to thank all of our friends who have given us such great support over these trying times. We are a part of the La Manzanilla community and hope that your continued support will keep us fighting for what is right.
