I design and install onsite septic systems for a living, 25 years and counting. I have visited La MAnz many times and have seen the water clarity diminish every year due to the excessive un-treated sewage entering the bay in front of town. There are many ways to address these problems, and you might be surprised at how easily human wastewater can be efficently cleaned and returned to the aquifer, instead of sending it the Mangroves. The Sun and the salt- water kill many pathogens, but the odor is still present as a by-product of high strength waste (shit) de-composing and releasing hydrogen sulfide gas from the manholes into the air we breathe. This is a subject that needs to be discussed more seriously since wastewater contains quite a few nasty bugs and parasites,
and the spores become airborne if allowed to dry on the ground. There are pre-treatment units available that connect directly to your septic tank and can lower the waste strength out of your home by up to 80% and in turn will get rid of the smell and clean up the water at the same time. Just not sure if LaManz is ready for all these new ideas since most people seem to like the big pipe carrying shit that ends up in front of town eventually, and these add-ons can cost in the 5 grand range. Anyway, if anyone is interested in talking about wastewater, you now have my Email.
