Calzones spoke to the Ejido president last week and the Sunday meeting did not have the sewer on the agenda. While the Ejido has influence, the management of the sewer system belongs to the Delegado here and the President (mayor, more or less) in La Huerta. The Ejido is currently friendly to environmental issues and has a paid staff member who addresses environmental issues. The current Delegado has shown a disinterest in environmental issues. He also resents "meddling" by foreigners. Relations between the two elected officials are strained. "Politcal" activity by foreigners is illegal and can lead to deportation. Calsones is addressing the issue by having the local public health doctor take the issue to the Presidente in La Huerta. The Delegado did not attend the La Manzanilla meeting called by her as part of the process to get the meeting in La Huerta. That meeting is still pending, but useful technical information has been made available by Public Works. |
