Enormous Electricity Bills

Our electicity bills over the summer were HUGE - more than double what we had in other years. What could cause this?

I caught our vigilante using a hose that is connected to the tinaco to water plants in the front of our house (instead of using the water line from the pueblo), so maybe the water supply pump was running more than usual. Anything else it could be?
