For any of you who are coming to La Manzanilla around the holidays, please remember that every year at the new year we give each of the teachers and administrators in the public schools in La Manzanilla (there are about 22 total) a gift bag in appreciation of all of their hard work and dedication to the children of the village. They look forward to this now, and these special gifts from the community have even brought tears to the eyes of some of the teachers. Please bring any donations to June’s house and let her know they are for the teacher appreciation bags. Some ideas of things you could give include: • Office supplies • Nice pens; mechanical pencils • Dry erase pens (there is always a shortage of these!) • Something special for their desks • Treats like teas, sweets, etc. • Calculator, stationary, stamp pad, post it notes, white out, staplers, etc. • Personal gifts for the teachers or their families (ie: frames, music CD, etc.) This is one way to give back to our local teachers who work hard and always have limited resources for their classrooms!
