i lived in Q.R when this hotel was being built. first came a road through the mangroves, then an huge, locked gate/entrance, then, in the middle of the night, truckloads of fill. then shacks for the workers. then permission to build, as there were no mangrove swamps to be endangered. Who cares, anyway. only the local fishermen and, since the coming of democracy 10 years ago,they can only vote once. if you want to do something, tell people to stay only in the barcelo chains or that old hotel in Cancun that starts with an O--i forget its name but it gives one percent of its profits to local enterprizes, or the smaller, family-run hotels in Tulum and Akumal. or if you like russian roulette,book the north part of Dreams -- due to fall down again soon,I'm told.
