@Jean Many who have returned from the scene have reported smelling sewage days before the explosion. At the time, they chalked it up to 'thats the way Mexico smells", and/or "the smell is coming from the mangrove." There is a lot on the news although it is mostly speculation at this time. The Mexican govt. has changed its story. They no longer believe the gasses were from the mangrove. They now believe it was from a broken sewer pipe. (How they know if the pipe was broken before or after the explosion is beyond me). Apparently the hotel was built on top of a cave where the gasses were trapped. At this point, who knows. One thing for sure - The families are going to make somebody pay for this 'accident'. btw - There is also a question about the hotel illegally occupying the Federal Zone.
