Our La Manzanilla neighbour and dear Canadian friend, Hilary Stanton, died in a tragic highway accident on her way to spend the winter in La Manzanilla with her spouse, Debbie. The accident occurred north of Tuxpan. Debbie is waiting to be released from hospital after observation for a severe concussion and complications with an infected wound in her arm. Debbie will return to Canada to recuperate. The day before the accident, Hilary wrote in an email to friends in Canada: “I LOVE Mexico. The sky is blue, the air is warm, the sun shines. People are friendly”. Hilary felt so alive, so connected in her body and spirit to the magic of La Manzanilla and Mexico. She talked about how she loved being in the ocean, couldn’t get enough of it – of being cradled by the waves, caressed over every inch of her skin by the warm salty water. Our most heartfelt condolences to Debbie, to Hilary’s daughters, Jennifer, Kim and Morgan, and to her grandchildren, Maddie, Molly and James. Ray Harper and Cheryl Malmo |
