Hi Michael Mitchell, Your mode of travel in Mexico depends on how much time you have and how "native" you want to go. I took the public transportation from Guadalajara to Melaque (south of La Manzanilla) which took 5-1/2 hours. Then more hours waiting to get the bus that goes past La Manzanilla. And, lots of walking.

I found a better way to go was to rent a car using my American Express card. AmEx pays for the Mexican insurance. Let AmEx know you are traveling to Mexico before you go. AmEx charges 3% of any $$ spent in Mexico and charged to the card.

Where are you flying into? Where are you staying? How long are you staying? I've been all through Costa Alegre and can provide more information if you want.
