vet for a less-known test

Vini, the ex-perro callejero from La Manz was about to have surgery for a torn ligament in his right rear leg (no doubt from fights before he adopted us). The vet in Riberas (Lake Chapala) said he had to do a 5 in 1 test before his cousin could operate the next day. The test came up positive for heart worms. Heart worms are unheard of at the 5,000+ ft altitude of Lake Chapala. Dr. Ladron had a little trouble finding the injectable medicines needed for the treatment. It is now 6 weeks later and we need to have what is called, I believe, a D Field test conducted to make sure the two injections did the trick. Does anyone know of a vet in Manzanillo or even Cihuatlan who might either do this test or know someone who does? There are other tests available, but they are confused and rendered useless by the newer, gentler treatment that Dr. Ladron used.
We need to have this test done before we can start giving him Cardiomec (or Heart Guard). He contracted the disease here in La Manzanilla. Hope this serves as a heads up for springing for Cardiomec (Heart Guard) for as many of us as possible. I know that the medicine is pricey, but you should see the cost of the test and treatment once the dog gets this disease that Dr. Ladron called, being eaten alive from the inside out. It appears that if it weren't for a street fight, Vini might not be alive right now. Gracias a Dios y muchas gracias.
