I stopped in to talk to 3 of the 10 volunteers for the ambulance prior to our meeting last week RE:medical emergencies. There is no charge for their services(donations are greatly appreciated). Cost of the scorpion antitoxin is just for what it cost them. These local volunteers began this service 4 months ago, raising money locally to but a(very) used ambulance in Guadalajara. Currently, the volunteers are paying rent on the building for the ambulance, gas used, and any supplies. They have minimal supplies. A fundraiser is planned for early February--details to follow. All the volunteers have had training in emergency response. The 3 people I spoke with speak limited English. It is very exciting to have this service in La Manzanilla. Muchos gracias to the dedicated volunteers who man(and woman)the ambulance. |
