Maybe a bit of a slowdown here...as most folk do not have an anafilaxis response to scorpion stings, there is no worry about not breathing. The sting is similar to a good wasp sting. And the unfortunate numbness may last quite a bit. Anti-venom is available at about $600 pesos in the larger towns here, but has a shelf life of about 45-60 days. A physician can equip a home with a couple of injectables (antihistamines) that will last for years and might save your life...if needed. Keep your home clean by sweeping all corners on a regular basis, don't keep cardboard boxes around, and watch for these bugs in stacks of brick and tile. Most folk here survive the stings, and avter 5 years, we've not heard of a death. |
