Everyone has an opinion on this --- so I guess I'll weigh in too. Our doctor advised us that it is just as likely to get a bad reaction from the anti-venom, so you really want to make sure you need it, rather than just getting it because of fear. Our god-daughter ended up in the Manzanillo hospital with a reaction to the anti-venom just this fall. Also, the locals in our village told us to be sure not to drink any alcohol if we've been stung, probably until you know what your reaction is going to be. One man died in our village last year but he was quite drunk and by the time he figured that he was having a bad reaction and then all his drunk buddies figured it out, it was too late to save him. I agree with the last post. Keep your house clean, don't keep cardboard (and especially plastic!) laying around, fumigate as appropriate, sweep, sweep, sweep, and don't put your hands and feet anywhere that you can't see first. I've always told Michael that if we leave Mexico, it will be because I don't like sharing my space with the little devils. It's the price you pay for paradise? Sylvia
