Had time to do some Google images search using dinoflagellates as a search term

I got this page which has a photo similar to what we were seeing on the beach that night. I did not know
it was connected with a red tide. A friend was talking about the musky smell in the air, something I have
smelled at red tide events before.

Also look at the concentration of the plankton in this image!

it came from http://notallgloomndoom.blogspot.com/2008/11/bioluminescent-dinoflagellates.html - but I couldn't get all the images to load
