Swim to the Rocks

Yesterday I swam to the Rocks and back from Valentina's. The water was great. Only a few jellyfish (and they're the kind that don't hurt at all)close to shore. Since my temp gauge on my watch was reporting the air temp, it took a bit to change to water temps. Not far from shore it was 77.4 F. As I continued it reached 77F. Then, out by the Rocks, it went back up to 77.2F. Even these minor seeming temp changes can really be felt. One degree of temp change in the water is big. I can tell the difference immediately when I'm swimming--even between the tenths of temp changes.

On the return, it did the same in reverse order, except for one 'hot pocket' I hit. It felt almost as warm as a thermal area. And my watch recorded it immediately.

I'm glad to report the undertows of the summer are gone. They of course, can happen any time, but are not the norm now. And if you do find yourself in one, Do not panic. There is no reason to. Just swim sideways out of it. (These days, it would be a mild one). The side stroke is best for this. If you do find yourself in an undertow situation, always use a stroke that lifts you highest out of the water (side or elementary back). This allows the undertow to have less pull on your body. By the way, leave the crawl to swimming pools. Not good in the ocean.
