You don't need more bad news but I just came across some info that you may not have considered. Have a look under the "Vehicle Importation" link on http://www.ajijiclaw.com about having your car stolen in Mexico:

They're saying that if your car is stolen and reported to the police and your insurance company you may still not be allowed to bring another vehicle into Mexico when you want to return due to the importation hologram not being surrendered. http://www.ajijiclaw.com/30/
