Dia Mexicano was a success!

The Dia Mexicano last Saturday was a big success! We have received a lot of very positive feedback from everyone who attended and we know the dancers had fun! The first act was a singer who was getting requests for CDs and everyone got a chance to look at the art displays. The lunch consisted of excellent chile rellenos, birria de pollo, tamales, tacos dorados, arroz, frijoles, guacamole, salsa Mexicana, totopos and three aguas frescas - those with any space left enjoyed three options for desert! |
The show was very well put together, and spiced up by Lora Loka translating for the MC and adding a few of her own impromptu song and dance numbers! It quickly became very clear why the Ollin Yolitzli Folkloric Dance Group won the world competition in Bolivia. They showed a variety of dances from different stages of Mexican history, and this was interspersed with modern dance shows and an absolutely amazing 16 year old breakdancer. Event proceeds to be posted soon...
Special thanks to La Manzanilla Art Gallery, Abarrote’s Lidia, and Farmacia Nueva in Melaque for selling tickets for the event. Also, a big thanks to our hard working volunteers who helped make this event a success, including Lidia (from Abarrote’s Lidia), Lora Loka, Maestra Claudia, Jacqueline W., Gladys, LCEF staff (Nancy, Julie, Victor, Dean, Gabriela & Judith) and our 14 current Wings scholarship students (Omar, Brianda & Gaby attending the university; Luis, Tessy, Galilea, Isis, Jennifer, Monserrat & Betzaida attending high school; and Citlali, Humberto, Yessica & Ana Ofelia attending middle school).
