Back in the early 70's we would set simething similar to those from apartments we lived in near a freeway. They would float for about a half an hour, sometimes stopping traffic. Great Fun!!!!

We made a square base out of straws , placed about six birthday candles on the straws, used clear dry cleaner bags to make the hot air balloon and then we would light the candles holding the bags up while they filled with hot air. Then we would set them free to float away. They were beautiful.
