Great response Don, my hat is off to you. You have read the authors previous work
and have that as a solid foundation for your opinion. The only part of your
post I would challenge is where you say "The press releases don't really have anything
to do with the ideas presented by the writer". The first link is an op-ed written
by the author and is his summary of the ideas he presents in the book.
Since I have not read the book (and have no plan to) my opinion is based on his
summary, in which he exposes the crap foundations for his conclusions.

At the beginning of my comment I tried to speak of a difference between an academic
based opinion and the one I was expressing. I would like to reword that to say ....
sometimes I think a lot of data or a respected source just gets in the way
of our seeing and calling crap crap.
