What the NY Times doesn't want to say is that Mexico is not really getting better; it's that the USA is getting much worse and if compared to Mexico...the latter comes out ahead. The USA middle class has been shrinking since Reagan came into power.

The middle class in Mexico is a larger percentage of the total population than those who are poor. In the USA it is the other way around, The USA middle class has been shrinking since republicans came into power and people who used to be counted as middle-income, have lost their jobs, homes, even in some cases-their food sources.

Why would a smart Mexican want to immigrate (possibly being kidnapped along the way by the Zetas) to a country where there are no jobs, Gross Domestic Product is much lower than that of Mexico and the economy is bankrupt...and soon it looks like no one will loan the US money so that the gov't can meet any of it's obligations.

The only hope is to be employeed by one of the top 10 percenters who don't pay taxes and yet own 35 percent of the US wealth. That same hope can be said equally for Mexico so why travel?
