In New York, awaiting Irene

I'm in Nyack, NY right now, about an hour from the city, where the subways and buses have been shut down and soon they're going to close all bridges. Just a little wind and rain so far, but they say it's going to hit this evening. Lower Manhattan has been evacuated. There are 7.5 million people in Long Island - if it were a state, it would be the 13th largest in the US. I'm on the first floor of an apartment building right on the Hudson River, next to a yacht club. Lots of boats have been pulled out, but there are still quite a few anchored. The parking lot has emptied out - we parked up a nearby hill. It's pretty crazy. AS long as we have power (internet) I'll keep you posted. |
