Avoid it, don't even stop for gas in either Culiacan or Mazatlan, fill up at a Pemex on the autopista between Culiacan and Mazatlan. Too much of a chance getting caught in a drive-by in Mazatlan as this last weekend 5 people were shot in their car near the big Soriana bigbox store at the crossroads...just beat it on to Victoria? across the river. There may be still a good place to spend the nite in Acaponeta about 90k south of Mazatlan. A motel that was up for sale, the last time I stopped there last year...a Century 21 sign on the wall. I think it is called Estrellas.
