Local emergency shelter

I checked at the Delegado's today and they said the public emergency shelter for whoever needs it here in La Manzanilla is at the primary school. It's located on main street (Maria Ascuncion,) 2-1/2 blocks south of the Jardin and church (south is toward the arroyo.) It is already open for business. I would recommend bringing a few comfort items like pillows, books, earplugs, flashlight, sweater (it can get a little chilly during hurricane weather believe it or not!), because they might have only the basics like water and boxed food and maybe blankets.

There may not be much support for pets at the shelter. Check with them ahead of time if you need to. And there might not be much good parking. It would be on the street, which COULD be subject to flying debris, falling tree limbs, and flooding.

Many thanks to the generous people offering their own homes as shelters; that's the great thing about living in a small town!

You shouldn't have to head for shelter until at least tomorrow afternoon, although you might get a little wet by then...
