Thank you Truesch. We also heard. Here is Bea's email for the others:
"Well, what an event........mother nature at its most angry........We are presently in Perula at a friend's whose has phone and internet. Our phone/internet is down , but we do have electricity.... We spent a fitfull night during the storm and awoke to a world or rain, ..ON the way ( highway open but many many big trees down, slow going ) we stopped at the beach house to check what damage happened there. FA had to wade up to his stomach thru the lagoon to get to the beach bungalow, and was very attentive to possible crocodile interest. We had wind damage to some glass doors upstairs, and some water downstairs, and our favorite guardian tree was half down.....I waited for FA's return, and saw him coming with the kayak across the lagoon. He thought that was safer than being croc bait. Then we headed to Perula, and observed all the trees and communication lines that were damaged or down, so so many. We got to our house and had to drive under low low brances of down trees, and arrived to encounter a large tree down in front of the main gate. Not a good welcome. We entered the garden ,and it looked like a bomb went off in there. every inch covered with vegetation debris and many trees blown over ...... But the houses were fine. We can tell now from observing how things fell, or were blown the hurricane came from a total different direction that has never been seen here before. Many prepared for wind from the seas , but it cane from elsewhere at about 70 plus MPH.....
I sing the praises of the wonderful structure ......the palapa..... AMazing....... So all day today we have a neighbor with his machete chopping and hauling and piling since 9am .......
Then we went to see about the horses which we found around the corner from the stables eating grass. The stable , our lovely adobe building was OK, some tiles needed to be replaced , which we did today. But our fantastic big shade tree was blown over, as was 4 other of our trees on that property. What a mess.... So our friend with the chainsaw was very busy. One side of our beautiful adobe walls which was the property line by the street....fell also , since we had not finished connecting it yet to the corner, and with such strong winds it was a big target......
The town sustained much the same damage as us. Trees down, weak roofs gone, big signs blown down... . The only loss of life was a neighboring town, a woman and her child , whose house was next to a landslide hill.... Sad ...
Anyhow we are very thankful for the safety or us , our animals and all of our friends here. We went around and looked at all the houses of friends who are not here and their properties were all OK... So I do not know when we will be intouch again, but thanks for your thoughts and prayers , and please forward this to mutual friends of ours, since I do not have all the addresses of everyone on this laptop. I will send photos when we are up on the internet again.
Much love ,
Bea and FA"
