Hi Larry, Just now having a chance to go through some of the older post. One of my hobbies is to keep track of the different message boards out there, and note the format and usability of them. One thing that seems to be an immediate complication of use is to have several sections for post. The intention is good but the end result is more work for the user of the board. Post get posted to the wrong areas and board users get used to checking all the different sections to be sure they have not missed anything. The best solution I have found is making sure the Subject box has relevant information. To use your need for information on your home as an example the subject box would say something like "Need Damage report for Larry Fields House". There are several persons looking for damage reports in the older post (I hope their questions have been answered) but they are under one of my update post and have "re update" in the subject box. They have a slimmer chance of getting the information they need. They did not necessarily need to start a new thread (wouldn't be a bad idea) but absolutely need to put more relevant information in the subject box so those scanning the post i.e. not reading every one, will see it. I am still learning, I realized a day or so later that it would have been better if I put the date and time of the update in the subject box instead of just "update". The way I did it with two updates both having the same word in the subject box does not use the board to its full potential. On my third update I did put "Thursday update" but if the period of emergency lasted longer than a week it could also become a source of confusion. Joe (Inspector Joe) is always noting the conditions of places on his daily walks, it would be good if he (or someone) would post what they saw on their walk, thus answering many of the questions everyone has about their home. Still if someone has not been able to get information about their home they should post using the relevant information in the subject box, perhaps someone will go check for them. |
