I think that trimming trees, especially in the tropics, is always a good idea. The palms are flexible and handle the high winds better but even they benefit from a regular trim. Our caretaker mentioned that the cocos were all over the ground, even whole"racimos" (entire bunches). So it seems they do a natural culling of all that weight in the wind for self protection. Those racimos can weigh alot! Too bad the immediate need is to clear away debris and most people aren't thinking about saving some of the wood from valuble trees like a primavera or others. Our big Fica went down but it's wood is soft and would only be good for burning when it gets dry.
