I hope that this doesn't pertain to FM2 (Inmigrante) holders who used to be able to travel back and forth without any vehicle renewals at all. We don't really plan on ever returning to the US, so how would we get back our "deposit"? (We do have to cross the border por coche for a wedding next year.)

Of course, all of us have been saving big bucks for as long as we've been here with our US-state-plated autos. Insurance is significantly less expensive since it is considered "tourist" insurance and we don't pay any of the up to 10% of purchase price tax for ten years (declining a percentage point a year in Jalisco) that those with Jalisco plates pay.
