It's really ironic that this debate is limited to the 2 kinds of plastic bags - recyclable versus biodegradable. (If you read the article Vicki refers to, you see that there is an argument about whether it is better to recycle or biodegrade all this gratuitous plastic). What about taking your own bag or basket when you go shopping? To me, it is ironic, because it can't be so long ago that people had no other choice - you would not be offered a "free" bag so readily at all. People had beautiful woven baskets that they took to the market. Now we have striped bolsas, and even bags that fold up into a little pouch to be kept handy in your purse or backpack. Refuse, reuse, reduce - leave recycling and biodegrading as a last resort. |
