A Great New Opportunity for La Manzanilla Middle School Students

Staff members at La Manzanilla’s middle school have worked hard to have the school selected to participate in a government program that will bring digital media and a new learning system to the school. The program is called Digital Abilities for All and will result in three classrooms being equipped with 30 laptops and 3 state of the art electronic whiteboards. The students will receive a much more interactive, dynamic and effective learning experience. This will offer the students a huge opportunity for growth and development in their education. In the US and Canada we take for granted that students will have access to computers at school and will learn the basic skills that lead to success in postsecondary education or in pursuing a career outside the service industry. In Mexico that is not the case. The dedicated teachers at our middle school understand this barrier and see this government program as a great opportunity to offer the students from our rural town a better future. The teachers are now very concerned that they may lose this program. Although the government provides the laptops and the software, the school is responsible for preparing the building for the installation of the computers by December 15th of this year. Unfortunately their fundraising efforts have fallen short of the required amount and they are now asking for outside help to ensure their success in building a brighter future for the students. The building preparations include installing security bars, reinforced doors and locks and the preparation of a new electrical system in three classrooms. The total amount required for this is 25,000pesos (approximately $2000 USD). This program will mean so much to all current and future students in La Manzanilla.
