In talking with a lawyer a stun gun is legal and taser which as noted shoots out the electrode is not. Wasp spray can be sued against you. Many stun guns are now the size of a package of cigarettes and have a safety strap around your wrist. if one tries to take the stun gun the strap disconnects from the unit making it inoperable. I know several who carry them.

According to Taser’s Mexican distributors, both the sale and the use of stun-guns are restricted to the police. They do not mention whether simple possession is also restricted, but it’s never a good idea to argue fine points of law with law-enforcement officials. Verbatim:
