Neal, a steel finish is where the concrete is troweled using a steel tool, resulting in a very smooth, almost water-proof finish. Contrasting with the more typical mag or broom finish found in the sidewalk or street application.

A steel tool brings the fines to the surface, allowing a denser top finish that resists water penetration. Properly done, the finished surface will resemble stone counter tops at approx. 1/3 the cost of granite. Requires a mechanic with some deep experience, not the usual, Juan the local concrete guy.
