how about a Reward?

Hi Stephanie, I had this thought in the middle of the night - why not offer a $250 Peso reward for information leading to the apprehension of the thieves? This would serve 2 purposes - first, provide some tips to follow up on and secondly, there would be more eyes on the thief's activities and would perhaps deter further thefts. I would also like to consider what will happen to the apprehended thief - do we really want a youth to get into the Mexican prison system? Perhaps a focus on restitution and education would be better - involving the priest and/or lay couselling to assist in rehabititation. Also, if part of the underlying reason for theft is poverty, that also needs to be addressed. If it for thrill seeking, the thief will want to brag but if there is a price on his/her head, maybe that will be a deterrent. I don't speak much Spanish and I don't know the delagado but I would like to be part of the group that goes into the schools. I agree that a group of concerned citizens who are working together to find a fair and just solution would have a good impact on the student body. Even if the thief is out of school, he/she undoubtedly has at least one sibling still in school!
