Just a note of clarification - when I first suggested a reward, I was thinking along the lines of a SMALL reward for information to identify thieves much like the "crimestoppers" or "TIPS" police programs in Canada. (Tips are made anonymously and that is strictly adhered to.)

If the culprits were youths, some resources could be put in place to help them resolve the issues that are causing them to choose criminal activities - i.e. restorative justice; community service; couselling; creating a youth voice in the community to express their concerns; working to better our community, jobs for youths, etc.

If it is youths being employed by a larger criminal organization, then the youths need help to escape that lifestyle and they need information and education.

If it is adults who are committing the crimes, they need to be arrested and dealt with accordingly.

It is a crime in this country to break and enter and steal.

This is not a new issue in this community. Over the past three years that we have come for the winter months, it has been an escalating issue. I believe that some pro-active work needs to be done. I agree with Stephanie (on one of her other threads) that concerned citizens need to meet with the Mexican authorities and work together to end this type of crime and to incorporate existing Mexican resources and if there is a need, to suggest other resources or courses of action.

We all have a right to be safe in our communities no matter where we live and no matter who we are.

That's my take on the situation.
Sincerely,
Myranda
