I have known Arvid Chalmers for over 30 years, having lived on Saltspring Island for 22 years. Robin Wood used to repair my car. This is close to home, very close. It's too close for comfort. Maybe I'm lashing out at this moment in time, but I think I've had it with with this care less attitude by local authorities. Aside from this tragic loss of life, there will be consequences for Melaque and, yes, La Manzanilla. This news has already hit every Canadian media outlet. This town relies on Canadian money. We will see a drop in Canadian tourism here. Don't tell me it happens everywhere. The peso value of that loss could be significant. The blame for that will fall where it should, but unfortunately those who will suffer will be those who have had no say. The shame of it.
