I've tried to read all of the posts about this awful event, and I've only seen fleeting reference to the reported circumstance that the poor victim faced a man with a pistol and resisted him. Whatever the victim was trying to protect isn't of any use anymore. Please, everyone, your life is worth much more than anything you own. Don't resist an armed robber. If you don't resist, you'll almost certainly live to replace what you lost.

Also, the post about the murder/robbery in Ajijic is a case of apples versus oranges. In that case, the killer was trying to pickpocket the victim from behind. When the victim protested, he didn't have a clue that the robber had a gun. By the time he found out, it was too late. If he had known, he certainly would have given up the wallet without protest. As most of you know, that killer has been apprehended in Guadalajara.

My most sincere sympathy to all who knew and loved this apparently wonderful man in Melaque.

Finally, on another note, any chief of police who says that robbery and murder are common events in his/her town would be fired immediately...in Melaque, in New York, in Quebec...anywhere. It is a virtual impossibility that this quote bears any resemblence to reality. Plus, if the quote were true, we would know about it. We are full-timers in Mexico for over 6 years now.
