I was at the meeting but, given my limited spanish skills, didn't come away with much understanding of the outcome. There was a good turnout with an good mix of local residents and the foreign community. A number of locals addressed the el presidente on a number of concerns, some of which were not strictly on the topic of solving the security issues. My understanding, which could be offbase, is that the municipality needs the town to petition the state government on security issues. Reacting to a query as to why a police office/accommodation could not be cheaply constucted in the delegado building, the el presidente promised an immediate start to construction????? It was stated clearly to the el presidente that we did not need heavily armed police taking periodic cruises through town, we needed a couple of resident police to be available 24/7 to patrol, watch for supicious activity, and react quickly to and investigate reports of crime. I believe the el presidente promised two motor bikes??? What I'm not clear on is where the police men/women come from, who pays for them, or for what time period they would be available. |
