I have used bottled water in a pinch, with no observed calcium build-up, although the manufacturer is pretty specific about not using it. I do use vinegar ~once a week. I just tried boiling water in a large pan (with several modifications) and captured the condensed steam in a floating glass bowl. It worked very well with ~8oz in ~15 minutes. Some observations: A larger pan lid than the pan is easier to remove, and should be used upside down to better hold the ice and to provide a central collection drip point. The glass bowl size should be ~2" smaller diameter than the pan so water is not forced between the two and boil over... or more carefully monitor the boiling water Place the pan lid in the freezer for better condensation. It is easy to burn yourself. |
