Either our chisme is getting better, or the guys at the delegación read our message board. A lot of what they (Manuel Figueroa, Delegado 2ndo & Rafael Moreno, Sec'y) told me has already been covered in the other post. Near as I can figure ... Five men working on the new house above the bull ring had just been paid when they were accosted by three robbers, one of whom had a gun. One of the workers resisted and was shot in the shoulder. Two of the robbers escaped. One was caught by the workers and severely beaten, including at least one hit to the head with a hammer. He is under hospital arrest in Autlan. When I asked if it was true that he has since died, the above mentioned sources said they'd heard that, too, but couldn't confirm. Nor could they confirm where the robbers were from. "Maybe Melaque," they suggested. They could give me no names of anyone involved, but volunteered that the recovered payroll is being held in La Huerta. The police arrived at the scene so quickly, because they were at the delegación. A sort-of eye witness stated he saw the injured robber being laid in the bed of what he thought was one of the worker's pickup trucks and later transferred to an ambulance. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! (Although it seems to me that the smell from the bull ring lingers on, or maybe it's from the fish cooperativo.) Unfortunately, my usual source of crime info in La Huerta (who speaks passable English) wasn't talking, and referred me to our delegación. If this report leaves more questions than it answers, I suggest someone whose Spanish is better than mine has a run at Manuel or Rafa.
