Another point of view on use of local labor ("labour" to my Canadian friends). We are building a casita in LM. We hired a local contractor, Demi, who built Nancy's home on the beach some years ago. All of his employees live in town. Of course, Demi has to subcontract out for some of the construction requirements. My construction superintendent is also a local. Each Friday, on payday, my wife, Kathy makes sandwiches and provides drinks for our neighbor/construction workers to enjoy at the end of their work week. She does this to show our appreciation of their hard work and expertise. We couldn't be more pleased with the results (so far) of using local talent. |
