The excitement! The thrills and chills (we hope no spills)! Don't miss this year's La Manzanilla Cup Regatta, starting sometime around noon, wind permitting.

Here's what Lois Lane reported about last year's race:

The La Manzanilla Cup is a humble affair, started by a handful of local ex-pat sailors for fun and bragging rights. Fans and followers gathered under an umbrella table in front of Don Raul’s restaurant to cheer on their favorite Laser, Cat, or 20-something-foot Santana sailboat. A strong, steady wind chased the six contenders quickly through the approximately 20-kilometer course -- our beach to Blue Bay to Tamarindo and back – in slightly over an hour.

As in the past two years, Lew Liebowitz’s 16-foot Catamaran took a commanding lead, despite the boat’s handicap to start last and circle one of the markers twice. For reasons known only to himself, however, Lew did not cross the finish line first to win the coveted La Manzanilla cup yet again. Top honors this year went to Richard Rasmussen, sailing his sprightly little Laser.
