Re: Rental car insurance

I have rented from three different companies at the PV airport (total of 7 different trips). Unless I am arriving at a very high demand time (Christmas/New Years) I do not reserve a car. I have always found there were lots of cars available and could negotiate a better deal by walking up to the counter at the car rental yards -- never at the kiosks in the airport terminal.

There are 7-8 car rental yards within 200 yards of the airport terminal exit doors.

For ease, convienence and fair and transparent pricing I have been happy with National car rental. (Their pricing is more "flexible" the more cars they have sitting in their lot.) Exit the terminal through the main doors directly in front of you (ignore the hubbub) cross the road using the overhead walkway and the National yard is about 50 yards ahead (north). Their green sign is easy to spot. (Check out google maps, street view.)

The liability insurance is compulsory ($12.99/day I recall) all other insurance is optional. After my first trip, I was comfortable with the much lower road speeds, traffic patterns, absence of "road rage" and have only purchased the minimal coverage.

National was good because the contract stipulates what the total rental cost will be and I have not experienced any variance from that. (Taxes are significant.)

The trick is from the National yard you exit driving north -- ya gotta go south. Easiest route is to drive north about 1 mile turn right at the corner of the Modelo beer distribution center (this is also the street to the bus depot) turn around and make an easy left turn (the intersection has a traffic light) and head south.

Alternatively, continue driving north about another half mile (past the Home Depot) and stay in the left lane. The left lane loops around and redirects you south back towards the airport.

From that point you have just under 4 hours driving time to La Manz.
