The Regatta La Manzanilla and the La Manzanilla Cup are two separate events. Regatta La Manzanilla is now organised by Vallarta Yacht Club as a fun cruise for their members and as an opportunity to stimulate more interaction and friendship between cruisers and the community onshore here in La Manzanilla. Vallarta Yacht Club and La Catalina Educational Foundation have agreed to join their events into one and have the regatta/festival/fundraiser the last weekend of February each year. The La Manzanilla Cup is the locals' event each year, and the date seems to fluctuate. Before it became an "event" we used to do an impromptu "Round the Rock" on March 21st. There also used to be a race here among cruisers they called the Tres Palapas which was a triangular course between La Vena, Tenacatita and La Manzanilla which required landing at each beach and imbibing a cocktail before proceeding. This race has slipped into history.
