Huge thanks to La Manzanilla from the Baseball Teams!

Hi folks: As of yesterday, we had from 28 - 30 kids (they don't stay still long enough to count!) who are well shod and outfitted on the ball field. We had an infusion of cleats from Ontario (thanks Mo and Ilona!) and we appear to have surpassed our goals of equipment!

Patti started the kids playing with 3 bricks for bases, a bat or two, a couple of balls and now we have a set of bases, enough (barely) gloves for 28 -30, really nice jerseys, plenty of bats and balls and shoes! The kids bring a ton of enthusiasm and they're just plain having fun out there. They are gelling as two teams and their skills have grown a ton in the last two months that this writer has been watching!

Our goals for next year (or this year too) are to get a few more gloves so put one or two in your luggage next year, if you can; perhaps two full sets of complete uniforms if we can partner with an amateur team or two back NOB; and a place to play with a backstop and maybe dugouts. The last item will require some help from the Ejido, and plans are underway to start talking to them about what we can do. One last goal is to get the Mexican families to come out to games.

Games and practises continue until it's too hot to play. When Scotty and Robin leave, Jon, Andy and Patti will continue but they could use someone to assist with doling out the equipment at the beginning of games and practises and we can always use umpires and base coaches. Any help on the field will be welcome. It's challenging on the field when you don't speak the language but persistance pays off and eventually everyone will find a way to be understood.

So that's the way we stand at the beginning of March. Come out to the ball field on Fridays at 4:30 and see what fabulous kids we've got playing this game.
