We have researched it and there is no way to safely get rid of them. Cisco hates them and kills as many as he can and they just keep coming. They will be around for a long time and it only gets worse. We have had them for years and they destroy the garden.
If you get an invasion of red ants don't kill them. Several years ago we had a huge explosion of the crab population followed by the red ant invasion. Suddenly the crabs were gone for a few years. My theory is that the ants ate the crab eggs. These "Cleaner" ants eat everything in their path, including scorpions,dead crabs, beetles,even baby birds,etc. And they don't bite humans. If you step on them their friends carry them away.
Once again the crabs are back and the red ants have just arrived. We're hoping for Mother Nature to take it's course.
In California we have gophers, here we have crabs-go figure!
