Thank you all for your responses and suggestions.
I have done a lot of thinking (and praying)about this situation, and here's my thoughts.

Mike: the first instinct to call the police is normal, but this is not Canada, nor the States. How seriously do you think the police will think of this as a "crime" Even if they do come, it will be too late, and I know that the wife is not going to press charges--let's just say that she isn't going to win the gold medal at the Parenting Olympics either, and the boy will be too afraid to speak against his father--l reason is if the police don't do anything and just leave, he will probably be beaten even more severly, and 2. if the police take the father into custody, then Mom will blame him and he will likely blame himself that his father is in jail. Which by the way is no solution, he will only be madder and meaner when he gets out. This would only make the situation for the child worse!

Shane: your idea of going over there and asking if the child is ill, is there a problem, can I help won't work either. You cannot reason with an angry, violent drunk, no matter how nice you try to be. I learned that the hard way years ago!! I know Mexico is better than some countries concerning women, but I don't think that they are considered equals here yet. And I don't think that this man will want to listen to "some gringa" telling him how to behave towards his family in his country.

Am I frightened for my safety--no, but I do have concerns about reprecussions against me and my husband. This man has access to my yard, his house's back door opens onto our back yard, and I do not want my truck tire slashed, or windshield broken etc.

That being said, I do not intend to sit idle and let this continue without trying to help this child.

I am going to speak with Padre Fabio first. Perhaps if he speaks to the family,it may help. He is afterall a member of the community.

Then if need be, I will talk to the teacher at school.

If neither of this helps, then I will proceed to take it to " a higher authority" But I'm hoping that won't be necessary.

So I thank you all again, and would ask that you say a prayer tonight for this boy and his family.

I will keep you all updated on this situation, and for those that asked for more information, you can email me: empress.7@hotmail.com
