As nice as the Manzanillo power plant fuel changeover is, I think we can thank the eastern Pacific weather pattern for the clear drier air the last few days. There has been a high pressure system with associated ridge sitting well off the California coast, and a low pressure system with associated trough sitting in northern Mexico the last few days. I think that's why we've been getting the spring-like strong breezes from the west bringing this clear air to us, instead of the hazy humid summertime airflow from the south. The air tends to flow from the ridge to our west toward the trough to our east. Here's a graphic, but it's not much clearer than my wordy explanation: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb/PACFUL_18Z.gif It's nice that the weather didn't stay full-on June-style hot and humid after Hurricane Bud. That was TOO early! |
