Wow that's a lot! Thanks for the post, John. It's interesting to see the sometimes widely different rainfall totals in locations just a few miles apart. Our final "storm" total for that same 9 day period was (only) 8.2".

You guys must have been pretty much in the center of the "fire hose" of Pacific moisture following the monsoon trough which was aimed right toward our coastline for the last several days. We were off the center somewhat, and Manzanillo missed most of it with only 3" in the last 9 days.

Here's todays graphic showing the monsoon trough, anchored by that pesky low that used to be Invest 95 (they have shifted a bit to our north since yesterday): http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb/PACFUL_12Z.gif

And here's the discussion saying things are settling down: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATWDEP+shtml/

It could have been worse for all of us. According to the TRMM radar satellite, the 7-day accumulation was much higher just offshore and to our south a bit. Up around 20"! Here is the fullsize view as of this morning:

And here is a zoomed-in view of Mexico with my annotations:

And regarding our record for consecutive days with measurable rainfall, there have been three 10-day rainy periods (Aug 2010, Sep 2010, Aug 2007). But the champion was August 2011 when it rained for 14 straight days into mid-September! So this latest 7-day period doesn't even make the list (assuming we don't get any more today to make it 8 days, etc...)
